I am not a actor/actress follower. Nor, I have seen any of the movies up for best picture this year in the 83rd annual Academy Awards. However, this Sunday I am throwing an Oscar Viewing Party for my senior residents at work.
Today, I made adorable invitations that look like the “and the winner is…” envelops they use at the awards. I am planning on distributing them tomorrow. Of course, I asked all the residents to wear something snazzy and plan on showing up at 7:00. A lot of the residents where I work go to bed early, so entertaining them in the evening has to be especially captivating. Some how I managed to keep the majority of them up during the Super Bowl game by doing the wave, betting on scores, eating football finger foods, and cheering. So I do have hope.
I got a lot of my ideas from the Motion Picture Academy website. They have a complete party kit. I am using their drink recipes (the Starlet and Silver Screen Punch champagne cocktails) and their Oscar BINGO idea. BINGO is huge as you all might assume at an assisted living. So this will be really cool for them to mark spaces like “standing ovation” when it happens or “political statement” when it happens. I am going to give them Audrey Hepburnesque cigarette holders with pencils in the end to mark their cards.
I will have a red carpet rolled out, caviar deviled eggs, shrimp cocktails in mini martini glasses, and tuxedo strawberries. And each guest will receive a party favors wrapped up in a popcorn box. Check out Skip to My Lou for more ideas and pictures.
One thing I would like to do is ship these in from Eleni’s Bakery in NYC, but she doesn’t ship cupcakes out of state.

She does ship these Best Actor and Actress cookies but they are majorly expensive to get as many as I need for my party at work. The first image on this post is a picture of her Best Picture Cookies.

I love my job and the opportunity I have to make people happy. I also love the creative outlet I have. Life for 62-98 year olds can be very sad, frustrating, scary… all the sudden you are dependent on every one else for things you used to do with such ease. I am blessed that God has given me the opportunity to help some of them get through day to day by providing positive experiences. It makes me think a lot about my future too…
